As the years progress, more hi-tech gadgets are being invented. Many audio products, for instance, are now on hand. Among them is the voice over internet protocol (VoIP) which allows a person to make telephone calls using a computer with broadband internet connection instead of a regular telephone line. If allowed by your service provider, you may call anyone who has a telephone whether a landline or a mobile phone and your call can either be local or even international. Although some VoIP services work only through your computer or a special phone, others even allow you to use the traditional telephone. When calling using VoIP, your voice signal is actually converted to a digital signal that travels through the Internet. If using the computer in making a call, all you have to do is type the telephone number on the keyboard. But if you are using a traditional phone with an adapter, you can dial through the usual procedure and the service provider may give you a dial tone. If you are assigned a regular telephone number by your provider, any person can call you from his regular phone without the aid of any special gadget. For you to be able to avail of this service, a high-speed internet connection or broadband. This is possible through a cable modem or faster speed services such as the digital subscriber line (DSL) or the local area network (LAN). Another audio product that undergoes continuous improvement is the mobile or cellular phone. While mobile phones in the 1940s were operating without a cellular network, the latest units are connected to a cellular network of base stations called “cell sites” which are also connected to a public telephone network. Among the world's largest mobile phone manufacturers are Nokia, Philips, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Samsung, Siemens and Alcatel. |
