Development of Telephones
It's amazing to note how the telephone has developed into what it is now. Used to be we would dial the phone numbers from that round thing on the phone with holes for your fingers. Now, just a soft touch on numbered and lettered buttons, then we can easily get connected to anywhere in the world with crisp and clear reception to boot.
Telephones have gone cordless as well. The cordless handset, invented in 1965 by Teri Pall, has a base unit that is connected to the land-line telephone and operates through an electrical supply. This type, however, can only be used for communication in shorter distances because of its low power radio signal. It won't function as well during power outages. Hence, the cordless phone is only fit to be used in the home and office where extension lines are needed.
From the cordless phone comes the mobile phone, now called “wireless.” This type uses radio waves in allowing communication between a handset and cell sites. And because it uses higher frequency radio waves, the mobile or cellular phone can be used in long distances.
