Glossary
- Caller ID – a small screen on the telephone that allows you to see the number of the party calling you.
- Cellular phone – also a term for the mobile phone as it lets you call from anywhere you are. It makes use of cell sites in transmitting text, voice and multi-media messages.
- Cordless phone – as its name implies, this phone is used without any cord and operates with a battery. However, it has a base unit connected to the land-line system which is powered by electricity.
- Handset – a telephone with mouthpiece and earpiece at opposite ends of its handle.
- Mobile phone – a small, palm-sized wireless telephone that allows you to communicate to your desired party anywhere you are. It allows the transmission of text, voice and multi-media messages.
- Radio wave – an electromagnetic wave that is used to transmit and receive messages.
- Speed-dial – numbers on the telephone that are pre-programmed to let you quickly dial the number of the person you want to reach. You usually assign a certain phone number to one particular number on the telephone such that when you push that number, it will automatically dial the whole phone number.
- Telephone – a telecommunications tool used to send and receive voice messages across distances.
